Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, one of thelargest Islamic organizations of India, has expressed support for thewithdrawal of the special status of Kashmir. The support was expressed in aresolution adopted by the organization’s General Council held on 12 September.
"The General Council ofJamiat Ulama-i-Hind, in light of the resolutions adopted by its executive andgeneral councils persistently in the past, reiterates its unflinching standthat Kashmir is an integral part of India and that all Kashmiris are ourcompatriots," the resolution said.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind condemned theradical Islamic groups saying, "The enemy has made Kashmir a battlefieldusing Kashmiris as shield which makes it the biggest hurdle in rescuing thepeople from the impasse."
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind urged allconcerned to make the best of their efforts to make peace prevail in Kashmir.The organization called upon the masses and security forces to resist theextremist fronts.
The Indian government in Augustthis year scrapped Article 370, which allowed a special status to Jammu andKashmir.
Foreign affairs analysts say thatIndia has made the right move by abrogating the article and that keeping Jammuand Kashmir under the central Indian government is important to safeguard thisregion from the upsurge of religious fanatics.
Prominent Indian citizens haveremarked that the abrogation of Article 370 will ensure equal rights for allthe people of Kashmir.
