President urges all to make ongoing anti-corruption drive successful President M Abdul Hamid, along with his spouse Rashida Khanam exchanging greetings with the Principal of Ramakrishna Mission Swami Purnatmananda Maharaj at a reception he hosted for the Hindu community at Bangabhaban on the occasion of Durga Puja on Tuesd

President Mohammad Abdul Hamid on Tuesday urged everyone to come forward to make the government's ongoing drive successful to eradicate militancy, narcotics, extortion, gambling and corruption from the country.

He came up with the call while hosting a reception for the Hindu community at Bangabhaban on the Bengali Hindu community's biggest religious festival.

 "Corruption is one of the main obstacles to country's socio-economic development . . . So people from all walks of life must come forward to make the ongoing anti-graft drive successful," he told the function. President Hamid said all will have to make pledges to get rid of all sorts of wrong and immoral practices by devoting to the principle "I won't do wrong and also, won't allow others to do so."

"And then the country will move forward and a peaceful and cordial society will be established," he added. Noting that implementing peace and humanity in the society are an eternal message of all religion, the president urged everyone to follow the norms of religion and at the same time come forward for welfare of the human beings.

"Communal harmony is a longstanding Bengali tradition and people from all walks of life will have to take this tradition forward," he further added. The president greeted the Hindu community people on the occasion and wished for strengthening the existing bond among all people irrespective religions and castes.

President Hamid's spouse Rashida Khanam also exchanged greetings with the guests at the function, alongside him. Secretaries concerned to the President were also present.

Principal of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission Swami Purnatmananda Maharaj, parliament members, diplomats, political leaders, editors, journalist leaders, senior civil and military officials, Hindu community leaders and distinguished citizens also joined the reception.
