Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her resentment over the killing of BUET student Abrar Fahad. Warning of stern action being taken in this connection, she said, "None of those who have committed such a gruesome crime will be spared. They must be punished. I have ordered that maximum punishment be ensured for them."
Sheikh Hasina, who is also chief of the ruling Awami League, served the warning at an unscheduled meeting with party leaders at Ganabhaban on Tuesday night.
Among those taking part in the hour-long meeting were party general secretary Obaidul Quader, joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, organizing secretaries AFM Bahauddin Nasim, BM Mozammel Haque, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Mohibul Hasan Chowhdury Nowfel and Chhatra League acting president Al Nahian Joy and general secretary Lekhok Bhattacharya.
Sources present at the meeting have reported that the Prime Minister has taken the issue of the killing of BUET student Abrar seriously. She was clearly heartbroken during the meeting.
Sheikh Hasina said, "Those who have committed the murder and those who directed them to commit the crime will be tracked down. Immediately on being informed of the tragic happening, I instructed the law enforcers to arrest the perpetrators."
Expressing her indignation at the absence of BUET Vice Chancellor on the campus even after a day had elapsed since the murder, she asked, "What kind of VC is he?" As she put it, "A student was killed and he spent such a long time outside the campus?"
The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed everyone to remain alert so that no one can create any unstable situation in the university area.
