Rahgir Alam Shad Ershad, son of the late Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad, has taken his oath of office in parliament as the Member of Parliament (MP) from Rangpur-3 constituency.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhary swore him into parliament in a ceremony moderated by Cabinet Secretary Zafar Ahmed Khan on Thursday afternoon. Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah, Opposition leader in the parliament Raushan Ershad, Whips Iqbalur Rahim, Atiur Rahman Atique, M Shamsul Haque, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Faruque Khan MP, Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Disaster Management  and Relief AB Tajul Islam MP, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu MP, Fakhrul Imam MP, Masud Uddin Chowdhury MP and Syed Zakia Nur MP, among others, were present.

Shad won the parliamentary by-election to the Rangpur-3 constituency held on October 5.The seat fell vacant after Ershad's death on July 14.
