BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's physical condition has deteriorated and she needs better medical treatment on an emergency basis, her sister Selima Islam said after meeting the former prime minister.
"Her health condition has worsened. She is unable to move or eat without anybody's help… Her hands and legs have got stiff. She urgently needs better medical treatment," Selima said. She was talking to reporters after meeting Khaleda Zia at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital on Friday.
As her attention was drawn to BSMMU physicians' statement that the BNP chief is doing fine, she said the doctors are not telling the truth. "We have seen her actual condition," she said.To a question if Khaleda will go abroad for treatment if the government allows, Selima said, "She (Khaleda) did not tell us anything about it."
Selima, along with her younger brother Shamim Eskandar, his wife Kaniz Fatema, their two sons, and a daughter-in-law, went to meet Khaleda around 3:15pm and remained there for an hour.
Khaleda has been serving jail term since being convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in February, 2018. She was found guilty in another corruption case later the same year. She has been receiving treatment at the BSMMU since April 1 this year.
