Veteran batsman Raqibul Hasan and Taibur Rahman kept Rajshahi division bowlers at bay as Dhaka Division still hold the advantage against Rajshahi Division at stumps on day three in the tier-1 game of the ongoing National Cricket League round one at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah on Saturday.
Dhaka reached 206 for six in their second innings by the close, overall leading 249 runs, with Taibur unbeaten on 67 after Rajshahi finished their first innings at 197.
Resuming the day with 173 runs and four wickets in hand, Rajshahi could add further 24 runs before being all-out. Paceman Sumon Khan who bagged five wickets for 50 runs drew the first blood in the morning as he brought an end Farhad Reza's innings for 16. Salauddin Shakil then joined the party by removing Jahurul Islam for 64 runs. Salauddin Shakil and Sumon Khan a little later jointly brough an end Rajshahi's first innings before lunch break.
Dhaka however made a promising start in response in their second innings as they went to lunch with 32 runs without loss. But Chittagong foughtback after lunch interval as they picked up three wickets before tea.
It was left to Raqibul and Taibur to lift the innings. The duo added valuable 95-run stand for the fourth wicket until Raqibul was completely deceived by Farhad Reza for 65 runs. Dhaka lost two more wickets before stumps including skipper Shuvadata's scalp. Rajshahi spinner Taijul Islam continued his good form with yet another three wicket haul.
Meanwhile, after the two days rain interruption, Barisal Division bowlers turned a superb bowling and batting display to take lead against Sylhet Division on day three at Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadiumin Rajshahi.
Barisal paceman Kamrul Islam Rabbi tore through the Sylhet batting order by capturing six wickets as Barisal bowled out Sylhet for a paltry 86 runs in their first innings. Barisal in response put on 231 runs in their first innings before declaring their innings.
Captain Fazle Mahmud led from the front with a 70-run knock while veteran opener Shahriar Nafees added 63 runs. Sylhet were 27 for two at the close of the third day in their second innings as Barisal are ahead with an overall lead of 118, leaving Sylhet facing an uphill task to save the match with final day still to go.
At Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur in Dhaka, a terrific batting effort by wicketkeeper Zabid Hossain and bowler Shahidul Islam guided Dhaka Metropolis to take 59 runs lead over Chattogram Division on day three.
The duo kept Chattogram bowlers more misery as Dhaka finished the day with a satisfying 349 for seven in their first innings in response Chattogram's 290 in their first innings. Resuming the day with 66 runs and eight wickets in hand, Dhaka turned their innings in a satisfying position mainly thanks to Zabid Hossain and bowler Shahidul Islam unbelievable unbroken 148-run stand for the eighth wicket.
Both Zabid and Shahidul were unbeaten on 81 and 82 runs respectively after Shamsur Rahman scored 55 runs and skipper Mahmudullah Riyad contributed 63 runs.
Chattogram were in fine position at one stage taking seven Dhaka's wickets in 201 runs before tea break but later Zabid and Shahidul took Dhaka on a good position. On the other hand, Khulna Division finished the third day at 192 for three after dismissing Rangpur Division's first innings for 227 at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium, Khulna.
