A group of Muslims in Muzaffarnagar district under Uttar Pradesh of India are building a temple dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ruby Ghazni, a member of the party's women wing who is leading the group, said that the prime minister had done a lot for Muslim women in particular and deserved to be deified. "He has brought a sea change in our lives by banning triple talaq. He has also given us gas connections and free houses. What more does one want?" she asked.

Ruby's husband Samar Ghazni told Times of India on Friday, "PM Modi is doing well and has done a lot for the country and its citizens. He is being awarded even by other countries. So, we are going to build a Modi mandir in Krishnapuri area."

The group on Thursday handed over a memorandum to the district magistrate, informing her about the temple. They said they are financing the construction on their own land in Krishnapuri colony from their own savings. They are preparing to register a trust which will take care of the 'mandir'.

"We want to send out a clear message that Muslim women are fully supportive of the Prime Minister and his policies and there is no reason for anyone to brand him as anti-Muslim," said Ruby.

The decision comes weeks after the UAE government awarded PM Narendra Modi with the highest civilian honor 'Order of Zayed'. Giving details of the project, Samar Ghazni said they are planning to keep a lot of information related to the PM at the mandir where there may be a Modi statue as well.
