Dr AK Abdul Momen
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Saturday said no one can be deprived of water. He said, "Bangladesh has agreed to give only 1.82 cusec water of Feni River to India. Through the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on giving water, the matter has now come under a framework. Bangladesh has shown greatness with this deal."
The minister was talking to journalists at Sylhet MAG Osmani International Airport. He said: "For instance, 1.82 cusec, a little water. They could even take more water by tube-well. Now they can't take more than the mentioned water. This little amount of water will be provided for a town to be used as drinking water. How can we deny someone if they ask it for drinking purpose."
There is a significant wrong perception about the giving water from Feni River and exporting Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to India, he added. The Foreign Minister also said Bangladesh will be benefited by exporting imported and processed LPG.
Citing some recent facts, he said more than one hundred people were killed on the bordering areas between 2001 and 2002. Around 66 people were killed in 2003 while 3 to 4 people in last year. The killing incidents along Bangladesh-India border have significantly come down in the recent years, he further said.
