After displaying a mind-blowing football show against Asian champion Qatar, a spirited Bangladesh national football team will take on host India in Group E match of FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar Qualifiers round-2 today at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan stadium in Salt Lake, Kolkata at 8 pm (BD time).Ahead of the crucial match, a pre-match press conference was held on Monday at Novotel Hotel in Kolkata with both the teams expressed their hope on winning the match.
Bangladesh, who are currently placed 187 in the FIFA ranking compared to the India's FIFA's rank of 104 gave a good fight against Qatar in their last qualifying match at home held on Thursday last.
Though the boys in red and green lost the match by 2-0 margin but Jamal Bhuyan and co. did not go down without a good fight which the Bangladesh take it as inspiration ahead of India's match. They won million hearts with their superb football display.
Earlier, Bangladesh lost to Afghanistan by a lone goal in their qualifying opener. Bangladesh has some talented botters including captain Jamal Bhuyan and Mamunul Islam Mamun in the squad.
Bangladesh played eight World Cup qualifying campaigns after the 1986 World Cup but their best result remained from 1985 when they beat Thailand and Indonesia in Dhaka. However Bangladesh failed to conquer the group's other opponent, India, who twice beat Bangladesh 2-1.
Both Bangladesh and India last played qualifiers at the newly-built Salt Lake Stadium for the Mexico World Cup backed in 1985. On the other hand, India, after a boosting result against Asian Champions Qatar, aiming to register their first win in the qualifiers.
India played out to a goalless draw with Qatar in Doha last month after to a goalless draw in Doha last month after losing to Oman by 1-2 in campaign opener in Guwahati.
