PM's personal staff to be probed

Sources close to the government have informed that inquiries have been started to find out whether the officials in the Prime Minister's personal wing are involved in corruption or not. Reportedly Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to carry out this investigation.

There are allegations of graft against some of the employees that work for the Prime Minister's personal wing in the Prime Minister's Office and Gonobhaban. For this reason the authorities have started looking into the assets and income of these employees.

The investigation aims to ascertain the source of earnings of the officials of the Prime Minister's personal wing and to check out whether they exert influence on any functionalities of the government.

At the same time it is going to be inquired whether these employees take any undue privileges by means of their affiliation with the Prime Minister's Office.It may be added that a countrywide anti-corruption purge has been going on for last couple of weeks.

A number of leaders of the ruling party have been meanwhile arrested on charges of running illegal casinos and possessing unlawfully earned money. Surveillance is being exercised on the activities and earnings of other leaders too.Prominent citizens and civil society members have applauded the government's drive to eliminate corruption.
