2 warehouse owners jailed for selling onion at high prices

A mobile court here on Tuesday sentenced two warehouse owners to 15-day imprisonment for selling onion at a high price at Station Road in the Port City.

The punitive action was taken against Minhaz Uddin Bappi, owner of ‘JS Traders’ and Abul Hossain, owner of  ‘A Hossain Brothers’.

The mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Touhidul Islam conducted a drive at Nupur Market and picked up two employees of two warehouses to the local DB office for interrogation.

Later, the owners of the two warehouses went to the DB office where the magistrate sentenced them to 15-day imprisonment each.

They were involved in importing onion showing documents of importing products from Myanmar.

Both the warehouse owners were jailed for selling onion at Tk 90-120 after purchasing it at Tk 42 from Myanmar.

Recently, the mobile court conducted drive in Khatunganj area of the city and identified three warehouse owners in the price hike of onion.
