How many died of dengue? HC asks govt

The High Court on Wednesday gave the government until November 11 to inform it the actual number of dengue-related deaths.

The order came from the bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir.

The High Court also fixed November 11 for the next hearing after the two city corporations of Dhaka filed petition seeking time.

Deputy Attorney General Barrister Kazi Mainul Hasan represented the state while Barrister Toufique Enam Tipu stood for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

On August 28, the High Court ordered the government to inform it about progress of steps to control the spread of dengue. The city corporations sought more time from the court on Wednesday to file the report.

On July 4, the court on its own volition issued a rule ordering to take steps within 24 hours to control the spread the mosquitoes responsible for diseases like dengue and chikungunya.
