Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim has said that journalists have to undergo a great deal of difficulties while doing their work. Journalism is a thankless job, he further said.
SM Rezaul Karim made these remarks on Thursday while speaking at a program in National Press Club in Dhaka. He commented that a good journalist does not have friends or well-wishers. Nobody is ever satisfied with the work of honest journalists, he stated. The program was organized by Bangladesh Photojournalist Association.
SM Rezaul Karim said that journalists often become eyesores to dishonest people for the coverage of their corrupted activities. Sometimes the owners of newspapers curb the liberty of journalists, he added.SM Rezaul Karim said, "We are very happy with news items that admire us but we do not like reports on corruption, irregularities and mismanagement."
Journalists at times have to tolerate the misbehavior from the owners of news agencies, he told the audiences. Many journalists go through sufferings because of not getting salaries in time, he commented. SM Rezaul Karim called upon journalists to work without fears or favours to unveil instances of graft and anomalies. Journalists can play significant roles for the advancement of the country, he further said.
The event was presided over by Golam Mostafa, President of Bangladesh Photojournalist Association. Later on Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim handed over prizes and crests to eight photojournalists for their contributions in the field of journalism.
