Onion traders fined for price hiking

A mobile court of Chattogram district administration  led by Executive Magistrate Towhidul  Islam convicted  owner of Mahin Enterprises of Khatungonj  yesterday morning with Tk.20 thousand  as penalty for price hiking of imported onions of  Egypt and China.

Mobile court Magistrate told the media persons that the import cost of these country origin onion is 40-45 taka per kg but the wholesale traders are selling these imported  onions with  excess prices.

He further said the drives against onion price in Teknaf and Cox's Bazar  are continuing and hence Myanmar origin Onions  are being sold in lesser prices. Sources said the mobile court monitoring  will be launched  in the  retail markets  of the port city .
