'Not all those in AL from other parties intruders'

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said those who joined the Awami League (AL) from other parties are not intruders rather those involved in wrongdoing are infiltrators.

He said, "All of those leaders and activists who joined our party are not intruders. If there is no allegation of misconduct or connection with communalism against them, they're not infiltrators." Quader came up with the assertion while talking to journalists after attending a meeting with the party's joint general secretaries and organizing secretaries at the AL central office at Bangabandhu Avenue on Friday.

Quader, also the AL General Secretary, said many persons who possess a clean image joined the AL and they are not intruders.

He again emphasized on his remark and said that the outlaws and those who have connections with communal forces will not be included in the new committees of the AL. Answering to a question about resignation of senior leaders of BNP, the minister said it is the consequence of BNP's negative politics.

Later, AL Central Working Committee leaders exchanged views with Rajshahi district unit AL leaders at the party's central office. Quader, at the beginning of the meeting said councils of expired committees of district, upazila, city, thana and ward levels of the Awami League are being held across the country ahead of AL's national council scheduled for December 20-21.

He has urged the root level leaders and workers to abstain from doing ill competition within the party. All animosity inside the party will be removed from the party ahead of its national council, Quader added. While speaking on the occasion, AL Presidium Member Mohammed Nasim said councils of different organization units in Rajshahi district will be held prior to the national council.

Mentioning AL as one the oldest political parties in the country, Nasim said it is the only political organization which timely holds its triennial national council unless there is any problem. He expressed his optimism that under the dynamic leadership of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the party would hold its national council in a befitting manner with a view to forming a strong committee to start a new era.
