Police arrested Islamic University unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) general secretary under Digital Security Act from sadar upazila in Kushtia on Friday night. The arrested was identified as Rakibul Islam Rakib, 25, son of Rezaul Karim, resident of Peyaratola area in Kushtia sadar, also the incumbent general secretary of IU BCL unit. Kushtia sadar police station officer-in-charge Nasir Uddin said that Rakib was arrested in a case filed by IU BCL unit former general secretary Jewel Rana Halim. 'Rakib would be produced befor the court on Saturday,' the OC added.
Rakib's family members claimed that he went to Kushtia sadar police station to file a case against an unknown person who threatened him to death over phone. But the police station officer-in-charge denied filing it. Later, he took help from 999. One of the representatives of 999 asked him to file the case with the police station. He, however, shown arrested in the Digital Security Act two minutes after filing the case.
They also alleged that Jewel Rana Halim submitted a complaint paper to the Islamic University Police Station instead of filing a case. But the police arrested him showing in a case under the Digital Security Act. On November 2, IU BCL unit former general secretary Halim filed the case with Islamic University Police Station as an audio clip containing conversation between Rakib and IU BCL unit former forest and environmental affairs deputy editor Jubayer went viral on social media facebook where Jubayer made several allegations against IU BCL unit former general secretary Halim and Kushtia constituency-3 MP Mahbubul Alam Hanif's personal secretary Raju.
