Jatiya Party's Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga has said that Noor Hossain, who was killed by policemen during Hussain Muhammad Ershad's regime, was an addict. Mashiur Ranga further said that Noor Hossain used to take narcotics like yaba and Phensidyl.
Mashiur Rahman Ranga made these remarks on Sunday during a discussion program at Jatiya Party office in the capital's Banani. Noor Hossain was shot dead during an anti-autocracy demonstration in Dhaka on 10 November 1987.
Mashiur Rahman Ranga added that Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) does a lot of theatrics on Noor Hossain. There is no democracy in Bangladesh at present, he stated. He referred to the murders of Bishwajit and Abrar saying that people are getting killed almost everyday nowadays.
Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader said, "Former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad was dedicated to democratic values. He took over state power under compulsion to save democracy. He also left power upholding democratic norms."
The program was presided over by Jatiya Party Presidium Member SM Faysal Chishty. Ahmed Bablu, Habibur Rahman, Sheikh Sirajul Islam, Sunil Shuvo Roy, Shameem Haider Patwary, Alamgir Sikder and some other senior party members were present at the discussion program.
