'Varsities have become torture cells'
Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) Member of Parliament Barrister Rumeen Farhana has said that the universities of the country have become torture cells. Referring to the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad over a Facebook post on the agreements signed between India and Bangladesh, she blamed Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for tormenting ordinary pupils in universities.  Rumeen  Farhana made the remarks in Parliament on Monday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury were present in Parliament at that time.

She said that many students belonging to the student front of the ruling party have become 'monsters' due to political misdeeds. She urged the government to crack down hard on the perpetrators. Rumeen Farhana said that the Vice Chancellor of BUET appeared before media 38 hours after Abrar's murder. She blamed the authorities of different universities for failing to take proper action against the lawbreakers.

The BNP lawmaker added that rule of law and accountability should be established everywhere in the country for the safety of common people.
