The administration of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Monday sought two weeks time from the students to meet students three point demand including permanent expulsions of all charged 25 students.
In responding to the proposal students said that they will took part in the upcoming term examination, if they authority meet their demand within two weeks. Sirsho Sansaptak, student of Urban and Regional department, came up with the information in a press briefing in front of BUET Register building after the a meeting with the university authority on Monday noon.
Earlier, a meeting held between the students representatives and the university authority. BUET VC Dr Saiful Islam, Director of Student Welfare Dr Mizanur Rahman, Deans of different Institute and teachers were present in the meeting.
After the discussion students said, "VC Dr Saiful Islam firstly sought three weeks to meet our demands, later the deans said that they are able to consider the demands within two weeks". Sirsho Sansootok, "We accepted the proposal of authority.
If they meet our demand within two weeks we will participate in the upcoming term examination". The demands are: permanent expulsions of the students included in the published charged sheet, ensuring punishment of those were involved in ragging and issuing an ordinance declaring specific punishment for ragging.
Earlier on last Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) charged 25 Buet students for Abrar murder.
Abrar, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of the university, was beaten to death allegedly by some leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Buet unit inside the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 7. His death sparked protest across Bangladesh demanding justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
As of now, 21 people including Amit Saha have been arrested in connection to the murder.
