Leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Khairul Kabir Khokan were arrested on Thursday in connection with the clashes between police and BNP activists that erupted on Tuesday in the capital. However, both Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Khairul Kabir Khokan got bail from court within a few hours of their arrest on Thursday.
Police applied for ten days custody of both these leaders but Judicial Magistrate Abu Sayeed quashed the remand application submitted by police and granted bail to Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Khairul Kabir Khokan.General Secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Hawkers Party Maqbul Hossain was also granted bail.
BNP leaders and activists gathered in front of Supreme Court on Tuesday demanding Begum Khaleda Zia's release from prison. Afterwards police personnel hurled tear shells and charged baton to disperse BNP leaders and activists. BNP activists vandalized some vehicles at that time.
Later on police filed a case against five hundred BNP leaders and activists including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Kaiser Kamal secured anticipatory bail from High Court on Thursday.
