Visiting Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Saudi Armed Forces General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al- Ruwaili on Thursday said Saudi Arabia will always be there beside Bangladesh over Rohingya issue.
Saudi Arabia will continue extending support to Bangladesh over Rohingya issue, he said during a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban.
Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili highly appreciated the role of Bangladesh in Rohingya issue, said PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim while briefing reporters after the meeting.
General Fayyadh mentioned the cooperation between Saudi and Bangladesh Armed Forces and said it is being enhanced day by day.
The Saudi chief of general staff highly appreciated the training provided by the National Defense College (NDC) in Bangladesh, reports UNB.
"The quality of training of the NDC is very high and we want to continue joining the training," he was quoted as saying.General Fayyadh explained the Saudi position on Yemen issue and said, "We don't want to go for aggression. We want peace."
He also praised Bangladesh's steps towards combating terrorism. Fayyadh expressed Saudi desire to join the celebration programs of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said fraternal conflicts among the Muslim Ummah should be solved through discussions and negotiations. "The benefit of conflicts goes to the arms sellers," she said.
In this context, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh got provocation over the Rohingya issue. "But we want to resolve the issue through negotiation," she was quoted as saying.
Mentioning that cooperation between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia will be strengthened further, Hasina said Saudi Arabia has a special place in the hearts of the people of Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister said the cooperation between Bangladesh Armed Forces and Saudi Armed Forces have been multidimensional for training and material supply, especially the support rendered for the development of various training institutions of Bangladesh Armed Forces.
About terrorism, the Prime Minister said the government is creating awareness to combat the menace engaging people from all spheres of society.
PM's Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman and PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hasan, Principle Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt Gen Md Mahfuzur Rahman and the Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh were present.
