Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud Friday said BNP's threat over waging a movement against the government is completely ridiculous.
"In the last 10 years, BNP leaders issued threat of waging movement many times. They do not respect laws and even do not accept the verdict of courts," he said.He came up with the remarks while attending the inaugural session of the two-day national career fair-2019 at North South University in the capital.
Hasan, speaking as the chief guest said the release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia depends on court. He said Khaleda would be released only if the court grants her bail and there is no alternative to it.
The Awami League publicity and publication secretary said the judiciary of the country is now completely independent, but it was not independent during the period of BNP.Many lawmakers and leaders of ruling Awami League are behind the bar only because the judiciary is enjoying full freedom, he said.
Stressing the overall success of the AL government, the minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the architect of Bangladesh's development.
Referring to Bangladesh's tremendous development in the last 10 years, Hasan said Bangladesh is now a role model of development across the world.
The information minister said building a developed nation is a must to build a developed country and Bangladesh is moving ahead under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in food…the country has already obtained the status of a middle income state. It will be a digital country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041. And the government is working relentlessly to achieve the goals," he said.
Noting that education is the backbone of a nation, the minister said the young generation is the asset of the country and they must be guided with proper education as they will lead the country in the future.
With North South University Vice-Chancellor Prof Atique Islam in the chair, University Grants Commission chairman Prof Dr Kazi Shahidullah and North South University chairman Benajir Ahmed, attended the inaugural ceremony of the fair, among others.Later, Dr Hasan formally inaugurated the career fair.
