Nuclear Day has been celebrated at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project in Ishwardi on Saturday morning with `Joy Bangla-Jai Bangabandhu slogan'.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the first concrete casting of the reactor building of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project under construction on November 30, 2017. Through this, Bangladesh entered the nuclear world and became a member of the World Nuclear Club. Bangladesh is the 32nd member state of the World Atomic Club.
Considering the significance of the day, Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology jointly organized a day-long program to commemorate this day.

Chairman of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Mahbubul Haque, project director Shaukat Akbar, ASE vice president and Russian project director of the Rooppur project, Sergey Lastochkin, Ishwardi Municipal Mayor Alhaj Abul Kalam Azad Mintu, scientists and staffs of all stages of the project, representatives of the Upazila administration were present.
Secretary Anwar Hossain said, "In the election manifesto of 1970, the father of the nation Bangabandhu mentioned the implementation of Rooppur project. It's his qualified daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very courageous in implementing this project. Therefore, the Prime Minister was asked to celebrate this day as 'Nuclear Day' nationally every year.
Project Director Dr. Shaukat Akbar said, "This year we are observing the day in a limited way. The day is a very important day for us. We are stepping into the world of Neuclear Power these days. We will request the Prime Minister to celebrate this day every year nationally.
n addition to rallies throughout the day, exhibitions, talks, presentations, indigenous sports, immunization programs and pleasant cultural events have been organized in the evening.
Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant is being built at Rooppur in Ishwardi with the help of Russia's latest technology, financial and overall support.
Russia's latest technology-based project, the Rooppur nuclear power plant, is referenced by the Third Plant Generation at the Novovarnas power plant. Russia's 3G plus generation VVER-1200 reactor will be installed at the two-unit power plant.
