Politics way of improving people's fortune: AL

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader Saturday said the politics is a way of changing the people's fate, not a means of building any anyone's own fortune. "Politics is not a product for buying and selling.

It is also not a device for making anyone's own fate. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina taught us that politics is a means of improving the people's fate," he said.

Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister came up with the remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of triennial council of Dhaka North and South City units of AL at Suhrawardy Udyan in the afternoon.

Earlier, Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the council as the chief guest while Dhaka South City AL President Abul Hasnat presided over the function.

Mentioning the normal life led by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's family members, Quader said, "Bangabandhu's family is the epitome of honest politics in the country. Why will you get involved in corruption, irregularity, tender manipulation and extortion? You should learn what honest politics is from the Bangabandhu's family."

The minister reiterated that there is no honest politician like Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the country after 1975.
"She has asked us to follow the path of Bangabandhu," he added.

Quader urged the party leaders and activists to make the ongoing anti-corruption drive a success. He further said, "The city corporation elections are knocking at the door. You should take oath from this council to win the polls."

General Secretaries of Dhaka South City and North City AL Shahe Alam Murad and Sadeq Khan respectively presented organizational reports in the council while Dhaka North City AL President AKM Rahmatullah attended the function.

AL Advisory Council Members Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque, Abdul Matin Khasru, Advocate Sahara Khatun and Lt Col (Retd) Muhammad Faruq Khan, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanok and Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, BM Mozammel Haque and AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das were present, among others, in the program.

The previous council of undivided Dhaka City Awami League was held on December 27 in 2012, but the committee was declared on April 10 in 2016 after getting divided into two units in 2015.
