Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is getting ready to roar back in the new-look prestigious Bangladesh Premier League- Bangabandhu BPL which is scheduled to begin from December 11.
Mashrafe is likely to lead Dhaka Platoon this year where superstars like Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Shahid Afridi and Thisara Perera will also join Mashrafe. Mashrafe was overlooked in the first seven rounds of players' draft but he received call from Dhaka Platoon in the eighth round.
Mashrafe was busy in his political works after ICC World Cup this year. But now he is fully focusing cricket ahead of the prestigious BPL special edition. "I hope Mashrafe will play the whole league. He is now gearing up to back to his best form. He bowled a few overs today.
It is difficult for him to get the rhythm back, but he will certainly get that," Mohammad Salahuddin, the Dhaka Platoon coach told the media on Saturday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. "He is trying to get fitter than before. We might have not seen that, but he is trying personally. He is motivated to do well in BPL," Salahuddin added.
Earlier, dashing opener Tamim Iqbal joined Salahuddin's class last week. Tamim Iqbal skipped recent concluded Bangladesh's tour of India due to accompany his wife, finally returned to the practice session on last Thursday. Tamim was also nursing a rib injury. Tamim last played against Sri Lanka last July but could manage only 21 runs in three-match ODI series. After ending the series Tamim rested for few days. Salahuddin believes the long gap cannot destroy their experience.
"The players like Mashrafe (Bin Mortaza) and Tamim are well experienced. They have been playing cricket for more than 10-15 years. So a long gap cannot ruin their experience. I believe they are capable enough to return back to their best form within a few days,"Tamim took part just one match in national cricket league for Chattogram Division but injury again forced him out from the competition though Tamim willingly continued practice.
He started net practice for Dhaka Platoon from Thursday where Coach Salahuddin guided him with batting tips. Mashrafe bowled few overs against Tamim on Saturday during practice session.
This year's BPL which is all set to start from December 11, will mark the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The name of the teams has been changed. Besides, changes have been brought in charge of the team. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza whi is the most successful skipper in BPL history is supposed to lead Dhaka Platoon though it is yet to disclose.
