The new-look prestigious Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) is just few days away where most of the franchises are yet to disclose their team's captain's name. Even the seven franchises are yet to unveil team logo and jersey.
BBPL favourite Dhaka Platoon recently confirmed Mashrafe as their captain. In the meantime, Rangpur Rangers announced Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi as their skipper for the upcoming BPL, according to the team's Facebook page. It was predicted that Rangpur pick Nabi as their captain.
Nabi is much familiar in Bangladesh cricket as he played in Bangladesh domestic cricket many times. Although he retired from Test cricket after Afghanistan's one-off Test match against Bangladesh but he has been continuing playing cricket with white-ball for Afghanistan. Even he is a busy cricketer in franchise-based cricket around the world.
Asked Rangpur Rangers director Akaram Khan about Nabi issue, Akram said, "Considering his experience we have faith on Nabi about captaincy but officially his name is yet to be disclosed. As Rangpur's team director, I will officially announce Rangpur's captain's name soon."
Akram Though Nabi has been a regular name in BPL, he has never led any side in the Bangladesh's lone franchise-based T20 tournament. Therefore this will be the first time that he will lead any side in this tournament.
The Rangpur Rangers formed a team with relatively young players and so Nabi's experience will be key in the side's success.Rangers also confirmed Ahmed Shehzad to play for them after Shai hope's non-availability for the tournament.
Squad: Mustafizur Rahman, Mohammad Naim, Arafat Sunny, Jahurul Islam, Mohammad Nabi, Ahmed Shehzad, Taskin Ahmed, Zakir Hasan, Fazle Mahmud, Nadif Chowdhury, Rishad Hossain, Lewis Gregory, Cameron Delport, Sanjit Saha.
