The '14th Central Annual Theatre Festival' organized by theatre and performance studies department of Dhaka University kicked off at TSC auditorium on Sunday.
A total of 17 plays directed and acted by the teachers and final year students of the department will be staged at two venues namely TSC auditorium and Nat-Mandal on Dhaka University campus during the festival, which also marks the silver jubilee of theatre and performance studies department.Professor Kazi Shahidullah, chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, inaugurated the festival as the chief guest.
Dhaka University pro-vice-chancellor Professor Muhammad Samad and DU arts faculty dean Professor Abu Mohammad Delwar Hossain were present as special guests at the programme, presided over by chairman of DU theatre and performance studies department Ahmedul Kabir.
'Theatre and music department began its journey in 1994. This festival brings together both former and present students of the department. I thank all faculty members and students, who have worked hard for organizing this festival,' said Ahmedul Kabir.
'Theatre has the power to change the society. DU theatre and performance studies department has made significant contribution to theatre and performance art scene,' said Abu Mohammad Delwar Hossain.
