Freedom day was observed in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district. On this day, the valiant freedom fighters fought death and defeated the Pakistani invaders and flew the flag of victory under Sector 11 to liberate the area. The triumphant freedom fighters valiantly liberated Nakla of Sherpur by defeating the Pakistani occupation forces on December 9, 1971.
Although the final national victory was not achieved, the flag of Independent Bangladesh was hoisted by the freedom fighters on 9 December, 1971 at Nakla Pilot High School field of Nakla. To-IC Abdur Rashid, Security officer Ekalim Shah and more than three hundred freedom fighters took part in the battle against the Pakistani clash and Company Commander Abdul Haque Chowdhury led the fights. In these wars 19 freedom fighters were martyred.
Although the Pakistani invaders retreated in the attack of the freedom fighters, the freedom fighters detained 130 Razakar-Al-Badar. The freedom fighters forced the invading forces to surrender at Palashkandi village under Pathakata union.
Later, along with 110 weapons 117 Razakar-Al-Badar surrendered to the company commander Abdul Haque Chowdhury. A national flag bearing the map of Independent Bengal was officially unveiled at Nakala Pilot High School ground on December 9.
When, the flag of Independent Bangladesh was hoisted in Nakla- Major Rana Singh, Lft Abu Taher, EPR Wireless Operator Farhad Hossain, Company Commander Gias Uddin Master and platoon commanders of Nakla, Sherpur and Nalitbari respectively, Nurul Islam Hiro, AB Siddirik, Jamir Uddin; Quarter master Zulhas Uddin Fakir, Abul Hashem member of Detective Division and more than thousand locals were present.
In memory of this day, various programs were organized in the initiative of different educational institutions and organizations including Nakla freedom fighters, Upazila administration, Amra Muktijudar Santtan (children of freedom fighters), FF Abdur Razzak Commander Memorial Sangsad. Various programs have been announced this year to commemorate the day.
