Students of Dhaka University demonstrated on the campus on Thursday protesting torture on four of their fellows allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders at Zahurul Haque hall.
Student Unity against Violence, an alliance of 12 student organizations, held a protest rally in front of Raju Sculpture around 2pm, demanding immediate punishment of the torturers.
Addressing the rally, Dhaka University Central Student Union(Ducsu) vice-president Nurul Haque Nur said Chhatra League has established a reign of terror on university campuses across the country. He also urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to control the activities of BCL men.
Demanding resignation of the university proctor, he said the university authorities failed to protect the general students.
Besides, around 60 students brought out the procession from the Faculty of Business Studies and paraded the main points of the campus. One of the injured Mukim Chowdhury has been observing a sit-in protest in front of Raju Sculpture since Wednesday.
Mukim, a second year student of Tourism and Hospitality Management department started the demonstration at the foot of anti-terror Raju Sculpture on Wednesday soon after getting released from Shahbagh police station. "I was never involved with Chhatra Shibir. The Chhatra League men intentionally tortured us to achieve their own interest. They have no right to torture any students of the university," Mukim said.
Mukim also said, "I will continue my agitation until disciplinary and administrative action are not taken against the perpetrators of BCL who beaten me up with a false allegation". "I placed a written complaint to the Proctor over the matter. He assured me to ensure justice", he added.
