Two courts of Barishal on Sunday evening announcing verdict of two cases awarded an accused to life term imprisonment for violating a girl assuring to marry and another accused drug peddler to nine years imprisonment.
Abu Shamim Azad, judge of "Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman (Women and Children Repression Prevention) Tribunal" Barishal announced verdict against absconding accused Babu Molla of Char Kalekha under Muladi upazila of Barishal awarded lifer term imprisonment for violating a girl assuring to marry her.
The court after examining 5 out of 11 witnesses also fined the sentenced accused Tk. One lakh or to serve more 3 years imprisonment.
Ajibor Rahman, bench clerk of the court, giving brief story of the case said the accused violated the girl in absence of other family members at the house assuring her to marry on March 23, 2012. Later taking the victim to different places and times violated her several times staging false drama of marriage. However on August 6, when the victim pressured to register the marriage, the accused denied the relationship and fled from the area.
Then the victim as complainant lodged a case with Muladi police station and Sub Inspector Sanjib Chandra Shil, investigation officer of the case, filed charge sheet against the victim on October 31, 2012.
In another case K M Shaheed Ahmed , judge of the tribunal for prevention of crime against public safety, after examining 9 witnesses awarded drug peddler Kamrul Ahsan Shaon of Amir Kutir area of the city to total nine years imprisonment and fined 9 thousand taka.
Court sources said sentenced accused Shaon was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion from Mubarak Molla Road of the area and recovered 67 pieces Yaba and 19 bottles Phensidyls on August 2, 2016. Mamunur Rashid Khan, deputy assistant director of RAB-8 as complainant lodged a case under two sections of narcotic control act with Barishal Kotwali police station on the same day. Sub Inspector Mominul Islam, after investing the case, submitted charge sheet against the accused on September 4 of the same year.
