A three-day long National Nazrul Conference-2020 ended in Gaibandha district town on Monday with a call to collective initiatives to popularize Nazrul songs and learn his life and works.
Kabi Nazrul Institute (KNI), Dhaka under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs arranged the conference in cooperation with district administration, said additional deputy Commiss-ioner (General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat. A concluding and prizes distribution ceremony was also held on the premises of Poura Shaheed Minar of the town here at evening with deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin in the chair, reports BSS.
Additional secretary and executive director of KNI Abdur Razzak Bhuiyan addressed the function as the chief guest and police super Towhidul Islam, civil surgeon Dr. ABM Abu Hanif and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Adv Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon were present as the special guests. Additional secretary Abdur Razzak Bhuiyan said Kazi Nazrul was a writer, poet, lyricist, revolutionary, musician and philosopher and earned the title of Rebel poet for his revolutionary songs.
Kazi Nazrul composed around 4,000 songs and his revolutionary songs played an important role during the Liberation War, he added. Then, a cultural function was also held at the venue. The artistes of KNI and the locals rendered songs and performed dances. Earlier, a seminar on National Poet and Father of the Nation was also held at Gaibandha Govt. Women's College here. A large number of people from all walks of life including officials, socio-cultural personalities, singers and media men took part in the programs.
