Dr. M Akkas Ali

Bangabandhu had a dream to achieve self-sufficiency in food production for ensuring food security. Achieving self-sufficiency not only in the production of staple food, such as rice, butalso increasing fish, cattle, poultry, meat, and milk production.

Towards achieving this goal, he stressed on the idea of community farming, which involved active participation of cooperative farmers and rural areas should be the priority of development for successful meet-up these challenges,as most of the people involved in theagricultural activities lived in those rural areas.

Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu, was enthusiastic on the essence green revolution. He prioritized in strengthening agricultural education, agricultural research, and research & extension linkage.

With this view keep in mind On Farm Research Division (OFRD), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) has implemented a large-scale production program with active participation of community farming under technology transfer, where farmers can get essay access and take a key role with active participation approach to adopt modern technologies.

Integrated Farming is also one of the mottos of OFRD whereresource utilization and mobilization occurs through modern technological interventionthat ensures farmer livelihood improvement.

Introduction of new crops or varieties in the existingcropping pattern and development of new cropping pattern for increasing cropping intensity may raise total system productivity. Fallow land utilization, technology intervention in the unfavorable ecosystem like charland, haor, hill also promote system productivity. Due to theimpact of climate change, agriculture sector is underserious threat.

Calamities such as salinity that arises in the coastal areas, drought, untimely rainfall, heavy rainfall, waterlog, and shifting of seasonal patterns may hamper sustainable crop production.

Under these uncertainties, OFRD can generate problem specific farmer's need based technologies and adopting climate resilienttechnologies in the farmers field. In that way, the dream that is the next green revelationas sighted by the father of the nation mightcome in reality.
