With a view to achieving self-sufficiency in food through improving agriculture, ensuring quality seed at farmers' level and controlling quality of seed from adulteration Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established Seed Certification Agency (SCA) as a regulatory organization on January 22, 1974. After the liberation war, an enviable development has been made in the agriculture sectorunder the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In continuation of this, the Seed Certification Agency will perform the following activities-
1. Develop suitable infrastructure with approved organizational set-up and increase capacity of SCA through new offices and seed laboratories in all districts; 2. Increase productivity of crops and food production by increasing the production of quality seeds under certification program; 3. Expand supervising and market monitoring services at field level with a view to ensuring quality seedavailable at farmers' level; 4. Conduct pre-post control grow-out test in order to ensure genetic purity of seeds; 5. Increase capacity of Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability (DUS) test and DNA finger printing activities in order to strengthen variety release/registration program;and 6. Develop human resource concerned through training on seed activities (production, marketing, quality control).
