Bangabandhu's vision was to develop agriculture sector

Kbd Dr Mehedi Masood

Our Bangladesh is filled with green and natural beauties. We are now self-sufficient in food grains. All these impossible things have been made possible because of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Bangabandhu gave priority to agriculture sector to reform the devastated country after the liberation war in 1971. He sanctioned Tk 101 crore out of 500 crore budget for agriculture sector in the year 1972-73. He gave 1st class status to agriculture profession with a view to bringing meritorious students in this sector. He said we must focus on village because it is our main development center.

After the liberation war, Bangabandhu took revolutionary steps to develop agriculture sector so that the people of Bangladesh can get relief from hunger and poverty. As a result, loan was provided to farmers on a simple condition, khas lands were distributed among farmers and tax for minimum 25 bigha land was waived. With a view to increasing the production of agriculture, he took initiatives to modernize the agricultural sector providing fertilizer, seed, and insecticides for free as well as equipments at a lower price.

Bangabandhu was a devoted soul for the farmers. He said, "Farmers must be saved, production must be increased otherwise, Bangladesh won't be saved."
