Bangabandhu's thoughts for the development of agriculture

Kbd. Khairul Alam (Prince)

Bangladesh means Bangabandhu. He wasthe greatest hero who brought independence for the country from then West Pakistan. Among his all thoughts, thinking about farmers was one of them. He always said, "A begging nation doesn't have honor."

From this thought, Bangabandhu gave 1st class status to agriculturist on Bangladesh Agriculture University premises in 1973 and said, "I gave you honor, maintain my reputation." Since his announcement, the country started to go ahead regarding the expansion of research and education in agriculture sector.

In 1971, Bangladesh had 75 million people and our country faced 25 or 30 lakh tons food shortage then. But, we now reduced the deficit as Bangabandhu took long-term steps for the development of the agriculture. We are now self-reliant in food production. He always gave the highest priority to agriculture in national budget.

His competent daughter Jananetri Sheikh Hasina made the country self-reliant in food riding on the path of Bangabandhu. Increasing the production of all foods including fish, meat, milk, egg, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared the manifesto of the election in 2018 that her government gave the commitment to ensure the nutrition and safe food.  During 3.5 years of Bangabandhu's ruling, he introduced modern agriculture providing improved seeds, insecticides, fertilizer, and irrigation by Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).

This was an epoch-making step to remit loans of the farmers. The experts said that Bangabandhu's contribution to the agriculture sector was remarkable. In fact, he was a devoted soul for the farmers of this country.
