Rail communication across the country is going to be restored on a limited scale after a disruption of more than two months amid the coronavirus outbreak.
When the coronavirus situation started to worsen, the government on March 24 declared general holidays and suspended all passenger train services throughout the country in an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus. Only freight train services were in operation, reports UNB.
Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan revealed that Bangladesh Railway is losing Tk 4-5 crore in revenue every day following the suspension.
Despite any significant improvement in coronavirus situation, the government has recently announced not to extend the ongoing public holidays and directed to operate all offices on a limited scale maintaining advised health rules.
It was also declared that all public transports, including trains, will resume services on a limited scale. The railway authorities are now busy making necessary arrangements to operate trains.
