Following the withdrawal of the shutdown and sharp spike in coronavirus cases and casualties, the government is planning to divide different areas of the country into three zones -- red, yellow and green -- based on intensities of the pathogen.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque came up with the plan of the government after a meeting at the secretariat in Dhaka on Monday.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, LGRD Minister Tajul Islam, PMO Principle Secretary Ahmad Kaikaus, IEDCR Director Professor Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, and mayors of Dhaka North, Gazipur, Naryanganj city corporations were present at the closed-door meeting. The Health Ministry will mark the three zones across the country and issue instructions about the health protocol of every zone.
Bangladesh has so far recorded a total of 49,534 cases of infections and 672 deaths. Coronavirus has spread to all 64 districts of the country. Many districts were put under lockdown for several weeks to contain the spread of the killer virus.
Meanwhile, public holidays ended on May 30 and the offices of the government, semi-government and autonomous bodies reopened on May 31. Shutdown imposed across the country following the outbreak of the virus also ended on May 31. Bangladesh reported its first case of the virus on March 8 while the first death was recorded on March 18.
