Wife of Liberation War Affairs Minister dies of COVID-19

Laila Arjumand Banu, wife of Advocate AQM Mozammel Haque, Minister for Liberation War Affairs and Member of Parliament for Gazipur-1 constituency, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Sufi Abdullah Maruf, a senior information officer at the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, said he died at the Combined Military Hospital around 8:15 am on Monday.

Information Officer Maruf said that on June 13, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque and his wife Laila Arjumand were admitted to the Combined Military Hospital after being attacked by Banu Corona. Although the Minister of Liberation War Affairs returned healthy, his wife was undergoing treatment there.

He was on ventilation in the hospital for the last two days. He died at around 8:15 am on Monday. She is survived by her husband, one son and two daughters and other family members. After Asr, Janazah is scheduled to be held at the ground adjacent to the central cemetery of Gazipur City Corporation.

Laila Arjumand Banu was born on 8 January 1949 in Gazipur to a Muslim aristocratic family. His father is Sheikh Mubarak Jan and mother is Lal Banu. She married AQM Mozammel Haque, Minister for Liberation War Affairs in 1973.

Meanwhile, leaders and activists of the district and metropolitan Awami League and other allied organizations have expressed grief over the death of the wife of Liberation War Affairs Minister and district Awami League president AKM Mozammel Haque.
