Three 'yaba smugglers' were killed in a 'gunfight' with the BGB in Rajapalang Union of Ukhia in Cox's Bazar. The three killed were Rohingyas from different camps. The dead are, Md Balukhali Rohingya camp of Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar.
Gora Mia's son Md. Hamid(25)Nazir Hossain(25) son of Mohammad Syed Hossain of Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhia and Nur Alam(45) son of late Zulur Malluk of Tambru Konapara Rohingya camp in Naikhyangchhari upazila.
The incident took place at 3.45 am on Thursday, the Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) said.Mentioning that two BGB members were injured in the incident, the BGB said that three lakh pieces of Burmese yaba worth Tk 9 crore, two home-made pipe guns and five rounds of pipe gun cartridges were recovered from the spot at that time.According to the 34th BGB, Cox's Bazar Battalion (34GB) Commander Lt. Col. A 10-member patrol team from Tambru BOP,
led by Colonel Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, took up position near Goda Bridge in Tulatli Jalil, Rajapalang Union, Ukhia.The BGB further said that when they saw a group of 10/12 people coming towards Bangladesh through hilly areas and challenged them, they fired at the patrol team.
At that time, the patrol team fired back to protect their lives and property.At one point, unidentified Yaba smugglers fled into a mountain forest, the statement said, adding that the patrol team found three unidentified men at the scene with bullet-riddled objects and yaba-like objects and homemade pipe guns lying beside them.
The injured were rushed to Ukhia Upazila Health Complex for treatment. The on-duty doctor declared them dead.It may be mentioned that the Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) conducted anti-smuggling and anti-drug operations in the area under its responsibility from January 1 to date and arrested 69 accused including 11 lakh 41 thousand 298 pieces of Burmese yaba worth Tk 34 crore 23lakh. Besides, 9 yaba traders were also killed in a gun battle with BGB.
