'No alternative to vitamin A to build healthy body'


Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gaibandha Md Abdul Matin on Sunday said there is no alternative to consumption of vitamin A to build a fit and healthy body. "All of us should eat Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) promoted orange-fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) as it is the power house of Vitamin A which is helpful for building our human body," he also said.

He made the comments while addressing a 3-day training of trainers of Development and Delivery Bio fortified (DDBIO) Crops at scale program at auditorium of Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK) in Nashratpur area under Sadar upazila in Gaibandha district, reports BSS.

Senior scientific officer of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam and coordinator of GUK Md. Aftab Hossain were present at the event as the chief and special guests while project coordinator of DDBIO program Mahmudul Hasan Rumen presided over the function.

Earlier, Agricultural Research and Development specialist of CIP Monowar Hossain made a power point presentation on the program with the financial support of UKAID and CIP-Bangladesh in cooperation with BARI.

The chief guest thanked the authorities concerned for choosing the district for the implementation of the program considering nutrition fulfillment of the people of the districts and the country as well.20 community nutrition scholars and agri volunteers of Gaibandha and Kurigram districts are taking part in the training.
