Cheques distribution of the financial help from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Corona Pandemic situation among the Journalists of Bogura, Gaibandha and Joypurhat was held at Max Motel in Bogura town on Monday noon.
Freedom Fighter and Member of Parliament (MP) of Bogura-05 constituency Habibur Rahman was present as the Chief Guest.
The President and Joint-Secretary General (Dhaka Division) of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Mollah Jalal and Abdul Mojid were present as the Special Guests in the cheque distribution program. Other speakers were Joint-Secretary General (Rajshahi Division) GM Sajal, Executive members of BGFUJ and President and Secretary of Bogura Press Club Mahamudul Alam Nayan and Arif Rehman, News Editor of The Daily Karatoa Prodip Bhattracharjay Shankar, Mayor of Shibgonj Municipality Touhidur Rahman Manik.
In the Program, around 60 Journalists from Bogura, some journalists from Gaibandha and Joypurhat districts were also present and President of Bogura Union of Journalists (BUJ) Amzad Hossain Mintu presided over the proram where the General Secretary of BUJ, Bogura JM Rouf conducted the whole program.
In the speech giving session, the local Journalists' leaders alleged that the central leaders are not paying heed to the risks of lives of the Journalists, restrictions in flourishing the journalism especially who live in Bogura as the district becomes the most vulnerable of corona threat for the journalists and so far 35 journalists have been infected by the Corona Virus and 3 of them died so far.
President of BGFUJ Mollah Jalal clarified that he had tried his best to solve the problems, stood beside the Journalists, got the declaration of wage board, but after the last election of BFUJ, the role of the owners of the newspapers, the dual role of some the journalist leaders, have barred BFUJ to go ahead and urged the Journalists to make eco with the development activities of the government with the light of zeal of Freedom fighting, secularism and patriotism.
He added that the Journalists should be paid salary like the MPO-listed teachers of Non-Government School; College shared by the government and the owners of the newspapers if the owners do not pay their salary in time and keep them unfed and untreated and this year, the government has given cheques to 4,116 journalists of the country under the banner of BFUJ.
In the very outset of the program, floral wreaths were given to the guests by the Journalists of Bogura and at the end of the programme, the Journalists of Bogura, Gaibandha and Joypurhat were also handed over their respective cheque.
