5.2-magnitude quake strikes Sumatra

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit southern Sumatra, Indonesia at 8.36am today.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department's statement, the earthquake occurred 232km southeast of Siberut, Indonesia, at a depth of 89km.

It does not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, it added. - BERNAMA
