A large number of people attend a human chain demanding the end of violence against women in Sherpur on Thursday. -AA
An hour-long human chain was held in Sherpur to stop violence against women, stop propaganda and demand legal protection. The human chain was held in front of the central Shaheed Minar in the Chawkbazar area of Sherpur district town on Thursday.
The human chain is jointly organized by the district women's council and civic organization Janaudyog. The human chain demanded a proper investigation and speedy trial of the death of freedom fighter's daughter Musharrat Jahan Munia as well as justice for all incidents of violence against women in the country. Bangladesh mahila parishad Sherpur district treasurer Neero Shamsur Nahar presided and Janaudyog convener Abul Kalam Azad conducted the human chain.
Sherpur press club president Sharifur Rahman, Sherpur sadar upazila communist party president Solaiman Ahmed, Bangladesh mahila parishad Sherpur district organizing secretary Irin Parveen, Sherpur District Debate Federation (SDDF) GS Imtiaz Chowdhury Shybal, IP Fellow of IED tribal leader Sumanta Barman, Pratibha Nandi Tithi president of Nari Raktadan Sangstha and many others spoke on the occasion.
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Sherpur District Branch, Institute for Environment and Development (IED), Nari Raktadan Sangstha, Sherpur District Adivasi Samaj Unnayan Sangstha, Sherpur District Hijra Kalyan Sangstha, Sherpur District Barman Chhatra Parishad, Human Rights Defender Forum (HRD), participated in the human chain. The speakers recently demanded a proper investigation and trial into the death of Musharat Jahan Munia, allegedly tortured by Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) Sayem Sobhan Anvir. They expressed concern over the untimely death of the child of a heroic freedom fighter. Proper investigation is required to ensure speedy punishment of those involved by quickly revealing whether it was murder or suicide.
