The procurement of Boro rice from the millers has been officially kicked off in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria. The price of boiled rice has been fixed at Tk 40 per kilogram and atap rice at Tk 39 per kilogram. Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder MP inaugurated the program through a video conference, organized by the Food Ministry and the Food Department on Saturday.
The collection campaign was started in Ashuganj from the Ashuganj Upazila food warehouse in Brahmanbaria. Deputy Commissioner of Brahmanbaria Hayat-ud-Daula Khan attended the rice collection program as the chief guest. The program was presided over by Brahmanbaria District Food Controller Subir Nath Chowdhury, while Ashuganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Hanif Munshi, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Arvind Biswas, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashuganj Jabed Mahmud and others were present at the program. A total of 27,769 metric tons of rice will be procured from millers in Ashuganj this year.
Upazila food warehouse officer-in-charge Moinul Khair said, "The District food office would procure 31,365 metric tonnes of rice in the current season. Of this, 27,769 metric tons of rice will be collected from Ashuganj. The allotment of Atab rice has not come yet. The price of boiled rice has been fixed at Tk 40 and Atab rice at Tk 39. A total of 141 mills have been contracted in Ashuganj.
The rice procurement drive will continue till July 31." In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arvind Biswas said, "I told the millers to work carefully so that no substandard rice is procured." Brahmanbaria DC Hayat-ud-Daula Khan said, "Legal actions will be taken against any middleman who wants to take advantage of the rice procurement."
