Jute cultivation has gained popularity in Joypurhat as the district Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has been providing necessary supports to the farmers and fair price of the cash crop. According to the district DAE, "In the current 2021-22season, the target for jute cultivation in the district is set at 2,985 hectares of land. Bearing this in mind, jute has been cultivated in 2350 hectares of land so far. The production target is 37 thousand bales of jute.
However, due to late rains this time, farmers are still cultivating jute. Therefore, jute cultivation is expected to exceed the target this season.Meanwhile, the local agriculture department has undertaken various programs to make jute cultivation a success. The farmers have been provide with practical training, improved varieties of jute seeds and required fertilizers.
SM Meftahul Bari, Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension, said "The target for jute cultivation has been set at 2,985 hectares of land in the district during the current 2021-22 crop production season. In total 2,350 hectares of land have been cultivated. Due to the late arrival of rains this time, the farmers of the area are still cultivating jute. As a result, jute cultivation will increase in the current season." He is optimistic that it will be possible to produce 37,000 bales of jute this season.
