The National Security Intelligence Agency (NSI) and the police have rescued 3 suspected brokers and 24 Rohingya children, men and women, from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar while they were preparing to go to Malaysia by sea.Among these rescued Rohingyas -7 are children, 14 women and 3 men. They are the residents of various Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhia and Teknaf.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Hafizur Rahman of Teknaf Model Police confirmed the matter and said, "Acting on a trip-off, the National Security Intelligence Agency (NSI) with police conducted a joint operation and rescued 18 more Rohingyas including two suspected brokers- Rashida Begum (38), wife of Mohammad Rafiq and Razia Begum (18), wife of Mohammad Abu Musa while preparing to sent to Malaysia."
According to the rescued Rohingyas, "The broker took 15,000 to 20,000 taka per person for taking them to Malaysia by sea. He said many were leaving because they had brothers, sons and husbands in Malaysia." The OC said, "The rescued Rohingyas are now in police custody. The decision on Rohingyas will be taken after talking to the Commissioner for Refugee Relief and Repatriation. However, legal action is being taken against the three arrested brokers and being sent to Cox's Bazar court for further proceedings."
