Veteran publisher Mohiuddin Ahmed, founder of The University Press Limited (UPL) is no more. He was 77 years old at the time of his death.

He died on Tuesday at around 1am. Mohiuddin Ahmed's daughter and UPL director Mahrukh Mohiuddin shared the information in his Facebook post.

She added in the post that her father had been suffering from Parkinson's disease for about 20 years. A few days ago, he was relieved from the corona virus. Funeral prayers of Mohiuddin Ahmed was be held at Azad Mosque in Gulshan on Tuesday after Zuhr.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief over the death of Mohiuddin Ahmed, founder of The University Press Limited (UPL). In a condolence message on Tuesday, the Prime Minister prayed for the forgiveness of the soul of the deceased and conveyed her deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.

Born in 1944, Mohiuddin Ahmed began his professional career as a journalist. He taught journalism at the Punjab University in Lahore for about four years. He later joined Oxford University Press as the editor of the Pakistan branch. During this time he had the opportunity to receive extensive professional training in various aspects of his publications.

He became the Chief Executive of Oxford University Press Bangladesh after independence. He has been the publisher and managing director of University Press Limited since its inception.

The number of his books is two. He has been writing regularly on book publishing at home and abroad. He was awarded the National Library Gold Medal in 1991 for his contribution to book publishing. In 2014, Mohiuddin Ahmed was awarded the 'Emeritus Publisher' by the Bangladesh Gyan and Srijonshil Prokashok Shomitee.
