Bangabandhu Bridge have set a new record in transport movement and collecting tolls from vehicles in 24 hours till 6:00am on Monday as a large number of people made their way to their home districts to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
According to the bridge authority, some 39,461 vehicles crossed the bridge during the period and about Tk 2.99 crore toll has been received. Taka 1,40,4,800 has been collected from nineteen thousand eight hundred and fifty three vehicles at the eastern toll plaza of Bangabandhu bridge.Toll of taka 1, 58, 43, 240 has been also collected against 19,628 vehicles at the western toll plaza of Bangabandhu bridge.
It was learnt that, three times traffic has been crossing the bridge over the last three days on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu bridge's east side highway as the Eid-ul-Azha is near at hand. As a result, there has been a slow speed of the traffic and jam occurring on the Tangail Highway continuously. Records of toll collection have been occurring in the toll collection on Bangabandhu Bridge.
Earlier in the last two days, 66,625 transports have crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge. The toll on the bridge has been collected Tk 5 crore 75 lakh 65 thousand 360. Executive engineer of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority's Bangabandhu Bridge site office, Ahsanul Kabir Pavel, said, there was a lot of pressure on the highway for the upcoming Eid. The highest toll has been collected at Bangabandhu Bridge in the last 24 hours, breaking the record of toll collection in the last two days about 3 crore-taka toll has been collected.
