Police get two more days to interrogate Pori Moni

Police have won a court order to interrogate actress Shamsunnahar Smrity, better known by her screen name Pori Moni, and her aide Ashraful Islam Dipu for two more days in their custody.They were brought before a magistrate's court in Dhaka on Tuesday following the end of a four-day remand over a drugs case.

Police also secured a separate court order to interrogate film producer Nazrul Islam Raz and his manager Shobuj Ali for another six days in narcotics and pornography cases.Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas issued the remand orders after hearing appeals. After the end of the previous remand, Pori Moni, Raz and two others were brought to court from the CID offices in Malibagh around 11:45 am, reports bdnews 24.com.

The CID petitioned the court for a five-day remand to continue the interrogations of Pori Moni and Dipu in a drugs case. The magistrate gave them two days. The CID had also petitioned for a five-day remand in a separate drugs case against Raz and Shobuj. Banani police also petitioned for a 10-day remand in a pornography case.

Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu filed the remand petition with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court. Former Dhaka Bar Association Assistant General Secretary Sikdar Akhtaruzzaman Himel represented the suspects and opposed the remand extension.Following the hearing, the judge extended the remand by two days in the drugs case and granted a four-day remand in the pornography case.

Pori Moni recently grabbed the headlines after accusing a businessman of trying to rape and murder her at a boating club. Police subsequently arrested Nasir Uddin Mahmood, a Dhaka Boat Club member, in a case filed by the actress.Pori Moni came into the RAB's crosshairs following the arrest of Sharful Hasan alias Mishu Hasan and his accomplice Md Masudul Islam alias Jishan in Bashundhara on Aug 3 on charges of carrying out illicit activities in the name of 'DJ parties'.

Based on the information gleaned from Mishu and Jishan, the elite police unit launched a raid on Pori Moni's Banani residence the following day and detained her allegedly with bottles of liquor, Yaba pills and LSD blots.RAB also arrested film producer Nazrul Islam Raz and his associate Shobuj Ali in a near-simultaneous raid on Raz's house in the same area.

The elite force filed two separate cases against Pori Moni over the possession of alcohol and illegal substances. The case was later transferred to the CID.The three suspects, along with Pori Moni's associate Ashraful Islam Dipu, were subsequently placed into the custody of Banani PoliceA Dhaka court later granted the police four days to question the actress over the charges.Law enforcers brought her and the other suspects to court on Tuesday after that time expired.
