Infection rate falls to 6.54%

2,074 fresh cases, 35 deaths

 
Bangladesh on Tuesday logged 2,074 coronavirus cases while the pathogen claimed overnight 35 lives, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its routine daily statement.

The country reported 6.54 percent positive cases as 31,724 samples were tested in the past 24 hours till yesterday morning. Data of the DGHS shows the virus killed 27,007 people and infected 15,34,440 so far.

The recovery count rose to 14,86,668 after another 3,735 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day. The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning 96.89 percent recovered, while 1.76 percent died.

The DGHS said among the total 27,007 fatalities, 11,747 deaths occurred in Dhaka division, 5,468 in Chattogram, 1,997 in Rajshahi, 3,505 in Khulna, 922 in Barishal, 1,218 in Sylhet, 1,333 in Rangpur and 817 in Mymensingh division.

COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. Older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.
